About the Programme
The programme is funded by the Nursing Midwifery Council. It offers, Scottish, Welsh and Northern Irish nurses and midwives (band 5-7) from a Black, Asian and Global Majority background a bespoke leadership development to become Florence Nightingale Foundation Nurses and Midwives and develop as future leaders of healthcare. The programme is to celebrate those who arrived on HV Empire MS Windrush. Windrush nurses and midwives were, and their descendants remain, major contributors to the NHS workforce and we want to acknowledge their contribution to healthcare.
Aims and Objectives
Clearer identification of personal leadership style
Greater self-presence and personal impact
Deeper understanding of the impact of self on others
Improved confidence in speaking up
Ability to understand and lead improvement
Renewed self-reliance to tackle real workplace issues
Greater awareness of personal approach to leadership – biases, blind spots, attitude to diversity
Lead with greater presence
Improved patient and health outcomes
The programme will run over 6 months and all delegates will submit a quality improvement project at the end of the programme.
1-day welcome day
A briefing day for both cohorts and the establishment of individual cohort learning communities, introduction to personality and preferences with feedback on MBTI questionnaire
1-Day Quality Improvement.
An introduction to quality improvement methodology and its application in heath care to support ones QI project submission.
2-day workshop Building your Authority; Presented by The Kingsfund
Facilitated discussion on current leadership challenges and opportunities and other contemporary topics
Introduce FNF Nurses and Midwives to co-consulting, a simple process for giving and receiving help
1-day “Presence & Impact” Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) Programme
A leadership and self-awareness workshop which supports development of communication, impact and presence.
1-day final day to identify next steps in the leadership journey.
This workshop follows on from the two day residential and explores future opportunities and next steps for ones leadership journey.
1 session. Action learning set
Bespoke group coaching opportunity which will enable delegates to develop their QI presentation ideas and support leadership challenges and opportunities.
High profile award ceremony to celebrate the success of the FNF Nurses and Midwives at end of the programme.

Building Your Authority: TBC 2023 (Virtual session) Attendance required on both days
RADA: 5th and 6th June 2023 (Face to face in London) You will only be required to attend one session and will be notified which date shortly
